Myeongdong – 5 – 7 minute taxi ride

Myeongdong is a popular area in the heart of downtown Chuncheon. Fast-food restaurants, movie theaters, and nightclubs all pack the streets of this hip area. The famous Dakgalbi street, with many tasty restaurants is located right behind the shopping street. Jungang Market and Chuncheon’s underground shopping district are two of the most popular places here. The Jungang Market dates back to 1962 and quickly became the biggest general market around, with items ranging from Korea’s traditional garb of the hanbok to clothing for middle-aged people. The underground market area has plenty of places to eat and has shops selling clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories.

Myeongdong also holds the annual Chuncheon International Mime Festival for about 10 days during the month of May.

Gugok Falls  is located near Bonghwasan Mountain. The falls twist and turn nine different times before dropping down from a huge stone wall, ending in a magnificent 50m cascade. The falls are surrounded by interesting rock formations, such as Haneulbyeokbawi Rock. If you hike through a nearby small mountain pass named “Kkaldakgogae”, you will come across a natural Munbae village where you can enjoy Sanchaebibimbap (mixed rice with seasoned wild vegetables) and traditional liquor.  In the winter, the waterfalls are very popular among hikers because, when frozen, the height and the sheer size of the falls are perfect for ice climbing.

Gangchon Rail Park is a popular tourist attraction where visitors can pedal along old railroad tracks while taking in the lovely Bukhangang River scenery.
